ElectroTech@algarphoto.com
Hi my name is Martin Norrey and I am a retired (early at age 44) Control Systems Engineer living in Porches, Algarve. On arrival here I set up Algarphoto.com to indulge my passion for photography and whilst this is going well, I am finding that you can take the engineer out of engineering but you can't take engineering out of the engineer! Consequently, I have set up ElectroTech as a Win-Win venture for clients and for me.
You get: A fully qualified, time-served, degree certified electronic systems engineer at semi-retired part time rates and I get to keep my brain in gear working on the electromechanical systems I know and love. So if you have any bits of plant that have never quite worked properly (irrigation, solar, pool plant, gates, garage doors) or if you are thinking about automating part of your home I am here to help. From the very simple, let's say timing some outside lighting or running a simple solar power source to outside lights, right up to more complex systems of automation such as irrigation controls and automatic gates I am here to assess, advise, repair and install.
We work on all types of domestic electrical installations. Indoor and outdoor lighting and power, pool lighting and pool plant, water pumps and air conditioners. Many Portuguese homes have a three phase 415V supply which makes load distribution within the property complex and often leads to frequent power trips if the balance is not right.
We work on 415V and 240V ac systems and on all ELV (Extra Low Voltage) systems such as irrigation controllers, 24V garden and pool lighting systems and Solar Inverters. Electricity is a potentially lethal and expensive resource so don't leave the safety of your home to "general builders" with only anecdotal knowledge of how your home distribution system really works. You wouldn't let your estate agent plumb in a bathroom so why let a builder or handyman play with your electrical supply?
Stay safe, get a qualified, time served engineer able to work to IEE standards.
We offer maintenance, replacement and installation of control systems for solar water heating, garden irrigation, automatic cisternalevel controls and any domestic control application.
We can replace, maintain, plan and install all types of time controllers from simple exterior lighting to irrigation systems and hot water / pool controls. Why not add some PIR detectors to your exterior lighting for security and convenience.
We can replace, maintain plan and install Extra Low Voltage (12&24VDC) solar power systems with panels or wind generators linked via charge regulators to battery banks. Enjoy free power for exterior lighting and other low current applications.
We can replace, maintain plan and install all types of pool plant. We work with pumps Ozone systems timers, dosers and lights.
We can replace, maintain plan and install all types of irrigation control and water feed valves. From the very simple to complex multi-zone, multi-valve fully automated designs.
We can replace, maintain plan and install all types of gate and garage door automation. Controllers, motors, solar back-up, low voltage, mains voltage, access control (keypads, phones, video) and safety devices.
What sets us apart from the rest you may well ask?
We are qualified and experienced. Most general builders will "have a go" at electrics, lighting and automated plant but they are working from anecdotal knowledge and experience. The difference is that we know what we are doing.
We work to recognised IEE (Institute of Electrical Engineers) standards to ensure that our installations are fully legally compliant and above all safe to use.
We are prompt, courteous and we always tidy up!
We offer you a quotation rather than an estimate. With a quotation, the price is fixed at what we say. With an estimate on the other hand, the price you finally pay can increase by as much as 100%.
Martin Norrey is a fully trained Process Systems Engineer. Beginning with ICI in 1980, Martin was a technical apprentice for four years, qualifying to HND level in Process Control Instrumentation. Leaving ICI in 1984 for Kratos, Martin worked on world leading Mass Spectrometers used in drug research and decoding the Human Genome. This position involved world travel and working in some of the worlds leading corporate and academic structures.
Leaving Kratos in 1988 for a management role in VG Quadrupoles Martin went on to set up the US service division of the company in 1989 and developed the Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer service division worldwide. Leaving VG in 1994 to set up independently as ESS with Nick Whiteley. ESS became a major player in the QMS manufacture and service sectors supplying equipment to major companies, leading Universities, research institutes such as CERN, Max Plank and ESPRC. Whilst running ESS, Martin helped to develop and implement major electronic engineering projects with major companies such as Guinness, BP, Shell and Anheuser Busch.
Retiring early in 2008, Martin now spends most of his time devoted to his love of photography. The remainder is taken up with small electromechanical engineering projects here in the Algarve and helping people to use various software platforms.
